​Business Chinese ​​​

Confucius Institute, NTU (CI-NTU) has been appointed by SkillsFutureSingapore (SSG) to be an Approved Training Organization (ATO) for conducting Chinese Workplace Literacy (CWPL) courses accredited under the Employability Skills (ES) WSQ Framework.

Business Chinese programme aims to equip individuals with the ability to use Chinese in the course of work at their working environment. This programme comprises three essential language courses, namely: Listening & Speaking, Reading & Writing, and Comprehensive.

Internationally Recognised Certificate
The CWPL (a.k.a Business Chinese) course, leading to the International Business Chinese Test (BCT), is an internationally recognised certification awarded by the Office of Chinese Language Council International (HANBAN).

Course Highlights and Objectives
Our courseware is designed by professional, well-qualified expatriate trainers with practical learning objectives, ​​which involve real life situation.

In this course, you will be able to:

  • ​Improve your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills through many common workplace themes, as well as techniques and phrases for many types of situation.
  • Participate in activities that are specially catered to you make use of the skills learnt in class, which also help to boost your confidence.
  • Participate in interesting and interactive classes to make your learning of Chinese a memorial lear​ning experience.
  • Connect with people from different backgrounds with different professionals.

Trainers​
This course will be led by very experienced teachers who have obtained Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTA), or certified trained teachers (t​​​hrough the National Institute of Education, NIE). They have been teaching in local universities, government schools and language​ schools​.​

Course Structure

  • This programme comprises three essential language courses, namely: Listening & Speaking, R​eading & Writing, and Comprehensive course. Each course has different progressive levels to cater for differ​ent needs - from Beginner, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate to Advanced.

Course Outline
Listening & Speaking Course (Conversational)

  • Learn and master the Chinese Phonetics (Hanyu Pinyin) at Beginner Level, thus, enhancing the pronunciation and reading of Chinese terms with higher precision, and facilitating more effective note-taking.
  • Improve your listening and speaking skills through many common workplace themes.
  • Learn how to make use of correct terms and phrases in a business-related situation.
  • Learn how to make a sound conversation.
  • Learn how to expressthoughts and opinions on different occasions.
  • Improve awareness of language use, in terms of accuracy, fluency and appropriateness.
  • Building confidence in using Chinese.

Reading & Writing Course (incl. Listening)

  • ​​There will be a combination of rudimentary listening, reading and writing learning activities.
  • Learn and master the Chinese Phonetics (Hanyu Pinyin) at Beginner Level, thus, enhancing the pronunciation and reading of Chinese terms with higher precision, and facilitating more effective note-taking.
  • Understand and master the writing of basic Chinese characters and strokes.
  • Improve reading and written skills through many common workplace themes.
  • Expand business and daily vocabulary to enhance reading and writing abilities, for both formal and informal context.
  • Improve awareness of language use, in terms of accuracy, fluency and appropriateness.
  • Building confidence in using Chinese.


Comprehensive Course

  • For all-rounded learning of the above skills and content, namely in Listening & Speaking, Reading & Writing.​


Pre-Entry Requirement: Placement Test​​

  • ​​Placement test is available for applicants to match their Chinese proficiency to the appropriate level (except for beginners who have not studied Chinese language before, or possess Primary 3 or below Chinese education).​
  • Applicants who have previously enrolled and completed the Business Chinese programme may use their test results as reference for course enrolment to the next higher level.
  • The placement test can be taken from Mon - Fri, 9:00am - 6.30pm. Please call 6592 2538/2539 or email to aclp@ntu.edu.sg for an appointment.​​

Enrolment Procedure

  • ​Enrolment fo​rm can be downloaded from CI-NTU website or obtained directly from CI-NTU reception counter.
  • Please read all the terms and conditions stated in the enrolment form before any course enrolment.
  • Submit Course Enrolment Form accompanied with: 
    1. ​​Photocopy of NRIC/FIN/Passport
    2. Photocopy of BCT results (except for Beginner Level 1.1 course applicants)
    3. Fees payment (including both registration fee and course fee)  
      ​​Note: For company-sponsored applicant, the enrolment must be signed and endorsed by the company stamp.
  • Email the c​ompleted form and relevant documents to aclp@ntu.edu.sg or submit at our ​CI-NTU reception counter.
  • All enrolments are subjected to the pre-placement test result and seats availability. Seats are based on first come first served basis.
  • Fees payment shall be made up​on enrolment of the course.
  • Successful applicants will receive confirmation notice at least 3-5 working days prior to class commence.


Post-course Assessment: Business Chinese Test (BCT)

  • ​BCT fees are excluded in course fee.​
  • A non-refundable BCT fee (refer to BCT Application Form for details) will be chargeable for trainees who have attended the Business Chinese programme. 
  • Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents will be eligible for 90% subsidies for the BCT fee. Except applicants whom are re-applying for the BCT within 90 days after previous test but without attending any Business Chinese programme will pay full assessment fee. date of course.
  • Trainees must complete the post-course assessment (BCT) within 2 months from the completion date of course.

​​Certificate
  • Trainees will be awarded a BCT E-Certificate within 2 months after release of results.
  • Trainees will also be awarded a Certificate of Completion from CI-NTU after having achieved minimum attendance rate of 75% per course; alternatively, Certificate of Participation will only be issued to trainee who fulfill minimum attendance rate of 50% per course.

Course Schedule

There are available on Part-Time basis, either Weekday Evening (twice a week, 7pm-10pm) or Weekend Morning (Sat, 9am-12pm) / Afternoon (Sat, 2pm-5pm).

Jun/Jul/Sep intake:

Jul/Aug/Sep intake: Intermediate/Advanced Level

Fee Support

Applicants may apply for the one of the following subsidies and/or credits/funds usage provided by the Singapore Government for the payment of selected fees and charges.

I) Fee Subsidies ​

a) SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG)

B​​enefit:

  • Enjoy 50% subsidy of the course fee.

Eli​gibility Criteria:

  • Applicable to Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents; aged 21 years and above;
  • Attempted pre-course placement test conducted by CI-NTU (exempted for Beginner Level 1.1 course applicants);
  • Acheived a minimal attendance rate of 75% per course;
  • Completed post-course assessment (BCT) within 2 months from the completion date of course);​
  • Participated in post-course surveys.​
    *Proof of identity status or relevant documents are required for verification purpose.


b) SkillsFuture Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy (MCES)

Benefit:

  • Enjoy up to 90% subsidy of the course fee.​

Eligibility Criteria:

  • ​Applicable to Singapore Citizens, aged 40 years and above;
  • Attempted pre-course placement test conducted by CI-NTU (exempted for Beginner Level 1.1 course applicants);
  • Achieved a minimum attendance rate of 75% per course;
  • Completed post-course assessment (BCT) within 2 months from the completion date of course;
  • Participated in post-course surveys;
  • For career development and upskilling.
    *Proof of identity status or relevant documents are required for verification purpose.


c)
Workforce Training Support Scheme (WTS)​​

Benefit:

  • ​Enjoy 95% sub​sidy of the course fee.

Eligibility Criteria:​​

  • Applicable to Singapore Citizens, aged 35 years and above;
  • Applicants must be employed during and after the course;
  • Monthly income 2,000 and below;
  • Attempted for placement test conducted by CI-NTU (exempted for Beginner Level 1.1 course applicants);​
  • Achieved a minimum attendance rate of 75%;
  • Completed post-course assessment tests (BCT) within 2 months from the completion date of course;
  • ​Participated in post-course surveys.
  • For career development and upskilling.
    * Proof of identity status and one of the following docum​​ent are required for verification purpose. 
  • WTS notification lette​r
  • Workfare Income Supplement (WIS) payout notification letter
  • Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) tax notification letter
  • SingPost receipt for CPF income declaration
  • Last 3 months’ pay slips
  • Employment letter / contract dated not more than 3 months before course registration​

d) National Silver Academy (NSA)​​

Benefit:

  • Enjoy 50% subsidy of the course fee.


Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicable to Singapore Citizens, aged 50 years and above.

II. Credit/Fund Usage

a) SkillsFuture Credit ​​(SFC)
Singapore Citizens, aged 25 years and above are eligible for SkillsFuture Credit which can be used to offset course fees.

​​​​​Benefit:
  • Receive an opening credit of S$500 that will not expire from the Government to offset the course fee of approved skills-related courses, on top of the above-mentioned government course subsidies.

Eligibility Criteria​:
  • ​Applicable to Singapore Citizens, aged 25 years and above.​
  • Applicants must be self-sponsored

b) 
Post-Secondary Education Account (PSEA) Fund

Benefit:

  • May utilise​ the funds in their own and/or their sibling(s)’ PSEA for the payment of tuition fee and selected, on top of the above-mentioned government course subsidies.

Eligibility Criteria: 

  • Applicable to Singapore Citizens (SC) or applicants with SC siblings who have PSEA funds, aged 30 years and below (for PSEA holders).
  • Applicants must be self-sponsored. ​​

Penalty Fee
Penalty fee will be imposed if the trainees who enjoy 50% - 95% course fee grant ​fails to meet any of the requirements stated above.
