Confucius Institute, NTU (CI-NTU) has been appointed by SkillsFutureSingapore (SSG) to be a Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) Approved Training Organization (ATO) for conducting Chinese Workplace Literacy (CWPL) courses accredited under the Employability Skills (ES) WSQ Framework. The WSQ system is a national credentialing system catering to key competencies that companies look for in potential employees.

Certificate of Attainment
The CWPL (a.k.a Business Chinese) course, leading to the Business Chinese Test (BCT), is an internationally recognised certification awarded by the Office of Chinese Language Council International (HANBAN) and SSG.The course is also awarded the WSQ certifications.

Trainers
This course will be led by very experienced teachers who have obtained Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTA), or certified trained teachers
(t​​​hrough the National Institute of Education, NIE). They have been teaching in local universities, government schools and language​ schools for more than 5 years.​     

Course Structure

  • This programme comprises three essential language courses, namely: Listening & Speaking, Reading and Writing. Each course has different progressive levels to cater for differ​ent needs which are from beginner, intermediate to advanced.
  • Besides the above mentioned, foundation course is specially designed for beginner with no prerequisite knowledge on the Chinese language.

Course Outline
Foundation Course

  • This is a preparatory course for beginners who have not studied Chinese language before or possess Primary 3 or below Chinese education.
    There will be a combination of rudimentary listening, speaking and reading learning activities.
  • Learn and master Hanyu Pinyin, thus, enhancing the pronucation and reading of Chinese terms with higher precision.
  • Learn and build vocabulary to help understand different Chinese contexts better.
  • Understand and know how to make coherent and sound sentences for everyday situations.
  • Understand and master the writing of basic Chinese characters and strokes.

Listening & Speaking Course (Conversational)

  • Improve your listening and speaking skills through many common workplace themes.
  • Learn how to make use of correct terms and phrases in a business-related situation.
  • Learn how to make a sound conversation.
  • Learn how to expressthoughts and opinions on different occasions.
  • Improve awareness of language use, in terms of accuracy, fluency and appropriateness.
  • Building confidence in using Chinese.

Reading Course (Comprehension)

  • Improve reading skills through many common workplace themes.
  • Expand business and daily vocabulary to enhance reading ability, and as a better preparation for the writing course.
  • Improve awareness of language use, in terms of accuracy, fluency and appropriateness.
  • Building confidence in using Chinese.

Writing Course (Composition)

  • ​​Improve written communication skills through many common workplace themes.
  • Expand business and daily vocabulary to enhancewriting ability for bothformaland informal writing.
  • Improve awareness of language use, in terms of accuracy, fluency and appropriateness.
  • Building confidence in using Chinese.


Post-course Test
Test fees are exclusively in course fee. 

Internal Test

  • Tests are conducted at CI-NTU in the last 2 sessions of training.
  • Test fees (refer Internal Test Application Form for fees payable) will be chargeable fortrainee who attended Foundation; Speaking & Listening Beginner 1 & 2; Reading Beginner 1; and Writing Beginner 1.

Business Chinese Test (BCT)

  • BCT are conducted by WDA’s Centre for Employability Skills (CES) on specific Saturdays at Test center of which thetrainee will be notified once they have registered for the test.
  • Test fees (refer BCT Application Form for fees payable) will be chargeable for applicant who attended Speaking & Listening Beginner 3 & 4, Intermediate 1 & 2, Advanced; Reading Beginner 2, Intermediate, Advanced; Writing Beginner 2, Intermediate, Advanced.
  • Singapore Citizens and Singapore Permanent Residents will be eligible for 90% subsidies for the BCT fee.
  • Traineemust complete the BCT within 2 months from the completion date of course.

Certificate

  • Trainee will be awarded with a Certificate of Completion from CI-NTU after they have achieved minimum attendance rate of 75% per course; alternatively,Certificate of Participation will only be issued to applicant who fulfill minimum attendance rate of 50% and above per course.
  • Traineewill also be awarded with a WSQ Certificate / or BCT Certificate after they have passed the post-course Internal Test / or completed BCT within the stipulated deadline.

    Pre-entry Requirement: Placement Test
  • Beginner who has not studied Chinese language before (or possess Primary 3 or below Chinese education) are strongly encouraged to start from Foundation Course which is designed to prepare you for the next level (in different courses).
  • Applicant who has previously enrolled and completed the Business Chinese Foundation Course (wef 1 Jul 2013 onwards) may use their test results for course enrolment on next higher level. Pre-course placement test is NOT required unless the applicant would like to attempt for a higher level than the recommended level specified in the test results.
  • Applicant who has prior knowledge of Chinese language or has taken Chinese course before or wish to enroll into a course of higher level is required to sit for a pre-course placement test* followed by a course consultation. This will help us to place you in a suitable course level which helps you to learn better.

*Please email to ACLP@ntu.edu.sg or call 6592 2538 / 6592 2539 between Monday – Friday, 9am – 6pm to arrange for a convenient time to take the pre-course placement test.

Enrolment Procedure

  • Enrolment form can be downloaded from CI-NTU website or obtained directly from CI-NTU reception counter.
  • Please read all the instructions, terms and conditions stated in the enrolment form before any course enrolment.
  • Submit Course Enrolment Form accompanied with: 
    i) Photocopy of NRIC/Passport 
    ii) Photocopy of WDA BCT results (CES) / CI-NTU Training Recommendation.
    (For Beginner / Intermediate / Advanced modules applicants only) 
    iii) Fees payment (including both Registration fee and course fee) 
    Note: For company-sponsored applicant, the enrolment must be signed and endorsed by the company stamp.
  • Email the completed form and relevant documents to ACLP@ntu.edu.sg or submit at our CI-NTU reception counter.
  • All enrolments are subjected to the pre-placement test result and seats availability. Seats are based on first come first served basis.
  • Full course fee payment shall be made upon enrolment of the course.
  • Successful applicants will receive confirmation notice at least 5-7 working days prior to class commence.

Fee Subsidies
Applicants may enjoy the following subsidies provided by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG​​​) for the payment of course fee.

a) SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG)​

Benefit:
Enjoy 50% subsidy of the course fee.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicable only for Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents;​
  • Attempted pre-course placement test conducted by CI-NTU (exempted for Foundation’s applicants);
  • Achieved a minimum attendance rate of 75% per course;
  • Completed post-course assessment tests (Internal Test at the last 2 sessions of training / or BCT within 2 months from the completion date of course);
  • Participated in post-course surveys.

*Proof of identity card is required for verification purpose when enroling.​

b) SkillsFuture Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy (MCES)

Benefits:
Enjoy up to 90% subsidy of the course fee.​

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicable only for Singapore Citizens, aged 40 and above;
  • Attempted pre-course placement test conducted by CI-NTU (exempted for Foundation’s applicants);
  • Achieved a minimum attendance rate of 75% per course;
  • Completed post-course assessment tests (Internal Test at the last 2 sessions of training / or BCT within 2 months from the completion date of course);
  • Participated in post-course surveys.
  • For career development and upskilling.

*Proof of identity card is required for verification purpose when enroling.

c) Workforce Training Support Scheme(WTS)

Benefits:
​Enjoy 95% subsidy of the course fee.

Eligibility Criteria:​

  • Applicable only for Singapore Citizens, aged 35 years and above;
  • Applicants must be employed during and after the course;
  • Monthly income not more than $2,000;
  • Attempted for placement test conducted by CI-NTU;(exempted for Foundation’s applicants);​
  • Achieved a minimum attendance rate of 75%;
  • Completed post-course assessment tests (Internal Test at the last 2 sessions of training / or BCT within 2 months from the completion date of course);​
  • Participated in post-course surveys.
  • For career development and upskilling.

* Proof of identity card and one of the following document are required for verification purpose when enroling.

  • ​WTS notification letter
  • Workfare Income Supplement (WIS) payout notification letter
  • Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) tax notification letter
  • SingPost receipt for CPF income declaration
  • Last 3 months’ pay slips
  • Employment letter / contract dated not more than 3 months before course registration

d) SkillsFuture Credit ​​
Singapore Citizens, aged 25 years and above are eligible for SkillsFuture Credit which can be used to offset course fees. For more information, please refer to www.skillsfuture.sg/credit

Penalty Fee
Penalty fee will be imposed if the applicant who enjoys the above mentioned grant fails to meet any of the requirements stated as above.

Course fees paid to CI-NTU may be refunded if:
