Course Objectives:

Theory of calligraphy

  • ​The benefits, formation and history of calligraphy
  • How to read and trace masters’ templates
  • China emperors’ calligraphy and Chinese calligraphy appreciation
  • Cultivation of creative ideas in constructing unusual works of calligraphy

Techniques and skills of calligraphy

  • The principles, writing styles, basic brushstrokes, layout arrangement, inscriptional seal of calligraphy and the use of rice paper

Course Instructor——Mr. Gu Jianping (顾建平先生):

  • A scholar, a calligrapher, an expert on writing systems and the founder of Chinese Cultural Lodge
  • Produced 30 literary works and 5 major Chinese dictionaries in Shanghai, Taiwan and Singapore and his literary works are at the top list of the bestsellers of weekly in Asian areas for 7 times
  • Conducted courses on Chinese characters, calligraphy, calligraphy appreciation and Chinese culture through TV, radio medias and in World Book Fair, Singapore Art Museum, ArtScience Museum and other museums
  • Had 3 large-scale personal calligraphy exhibitions in Singapore and Shanghai and his calligraphy works were exhibited in more than 10 countries
  • Invited to presidential palace to perform calligraphy
  • Chosen by China’s Ren Min Daily as An Outstanding Representative of Chinese Arts and chosen by China’s Liao Wang Weekly as The Backbone of China – The Elegant Demeanor of Chinese Artists
Students will be awarded a certificate after course completion. (Terms and Conditions apply)
