Daily Chinese - HSK Programme (formerly Communicative Chinese)​

The Daily Chinese – HSK programme is customised to the needs of anyone who wish to learn Chinese language and Chinese culture. It consists of the Basic, Intermediate, Advanced levels, which covers a wide range of familiar topics, such as talking about personal information, living, working, as well as social interaction etc. The theme-based lessons will help learners develop their skills in both listening and speaking, and reading and writing. At each level, they will learn an average of 400 words and 50 language points. 

Course Highlights and Objectives

In this course, you will be able to:

  • Improve speaking, listening and reading skills through many daily life themes, as well as techniques and phrases for many types of situation.
  • Integrate linguistic learning with cultural learning to achieve the development and improvement in the four skill areas of speaking and listening, reading, writing, and intercultural understanding.
  • Enjoy interesting and interactive classes to make learning of Chinese a memorable learning experience.
  • Participate in activities that are specially designed to help you to make use of the skills learnt in class, which also help to boost your confidence.​

Trainers

This course will be led by certified trained teachers (through the National Institute of Education, NIE) or very experienced teacher who have been teaching in local universities, government schools and language schools for more than 5 years.

Course Structure

Daily Chinese – HSK consists of 300 hours of learning from Basic, Intermediate to Advanced, divided into 10 levels adapted from the latest HSK syllabus.

Course Outlines

Basic Level 1 and Basic Level 2

  • Learn and master the Chinese Phonetics, thus understanding and getting familiarised with the Chinese pronunciation.
  • Understand and use simple Chinese words and phrases, meet basic needs for daily conversation.
  • Understand the structure of Chinese characters and recognise characters. 
  • Demonstrate basic writing skills of strokes of characters and radicals.
  • Learn and understand the interesting Chinese culture and social interaction.
  • Learn and build vocabulary of 150 words most frequently used Chinese words and 45 language points to help in understanding different Chinese contexts better.

Basic Level 3 and Basic Level 4

  • Able to use Chinese in a simple and direct manner, applying it in a basic fashion to their daily lives.
  • Understand the structure of Chinese characters and recognise characters. 
  • Learn and understand the interesting Chinese culture and social interaction.
  • Obtain a cumulative vocabulary of 300 words and learn 45 language points to help in understanding different Chinese contexts better.​

Intermediate Level 1 and Intermediate Level 2

 
  • Able to use Chinese to serve the demands of their personal lives, studies and work, and are capable of completing most of the communicative tasks they experience during their Chinese tour.
  • Improve reading and writing skills through many common everyday themes.
  • Improve awareness of language use, in terms of accuracy, fluency and appropriateness.
  • Learn and understand the interesting Chinese culture and social interaction.
  • Obtain a cumulative vocabulary of 600 words and learn 45-50 language points to help in understanding different Chinese contexts better.

Intermediate Level 3 and Intermediate Level 4

  • Able to discuss a relatively wide range of topics in Chinese and are capable of communicating fluently with native Chinese speakers.
  • Improve reading and writing skills through many common everyday themes.
  • Improve awareness of language use, in term
  • Learn and understand the interesting Chinese culture and social interaction.s of accuracy, fluency and appropriateness.
  • Obtain a cumulative vocabulary of 1200 words and learn 100 language points to help in understanding different Chinese contexts better. ​

Advanced Level 1 and Advanced Level 2

  • Able to read Chinese newspapers and magazines, watch Chinese films and are capable of writing and delivering a lengthy speech in Chinese.
  • Can easily understand any information communicated in Chinese and are capable of smoothly expressing themselves in written or oral form.
  • Learn and understand the interesting Chinese culture and social interaction.
  • Obtain a cumulative vocabulary of 1500-2000 words and learn 50 language points to help in understanding different Chinese contexts better.

Certificate

  • ​Trainees will be awarded with a Certificate of Completion from the CI-NTU after they have completed the course and have met the requirements stated as follows:

- Completed the course with minimum attendance rate of 70% per course;
- Passed post-course test by the stipulated deadline;
- Participated in post-course surveys.

  • ​​Trainees who fail to meet any of the above criteria and with a minimum attendance rate of 50%, will only be issued a Certificate of Participation instead.​​​

Pre-entry Requirement: Placement Test 

  • ​Beginners who have not studied Chinese language are strongly encouraged to start from Basic Level 1. Pre-course placement test is NOT required.​
  • Applicant who has previously enrolled and completed the Daily Chinese – HSK programme may use their test results for course enrolment on next higher level. Pre-course placement test is NOT required unless the applicant would like to attempt for a higher level than the recommended level specified in the test results.​
  • Applicant who have prior knowledge of Chinese language or have taken Chinese course before or wish to enroll into a course of higher level are required to sit for a pre-course placement test* followed by a course consultation. This will help us to place you in a suitable course level which helps you to learn better.

*The placement test can be taken from Monday – Friday, 9am – 6:45pm. Please email to ACLP@ntu.edu.sg or contact us at 6592 2538 / 6592 2539 for an appointment.

Enrolment​ Procedure

There are four intakes in a year, which are January, April, July and October. Each intake will have weekday and weekend classes. Registration will open for two months before the intake. ​​​

  • ​​Enrolment form can be downloaded from CI-NTU website or obtained directly from CI-NTU reception counter.
  • Please read all the instructions, terms and conditions stated in the enrolment form before any course enrolment. 
  • Submit Course Enrolment Form accompanied with:

i) Photocopy of NRIC/Passport
​ii)CI-NTU pre-course placement test training recommendation slip / CI-NTU post-course test training recommendation notice (Basic Level 1 can be exempted);
iii) A non-refundable registration fee of S$64.20 (first-time application, inclusive of 7% GST) / S$53.50 (Subsequent application, inclusive of 7% GST) and course fee;
iv)For company-sponsored applicant, the enrolment must be signed and endorsed by the company stamp. ​

  • ​Email the completed form and relevant documents to ACLP@ntu.edu.sg or submit to us at our CI-NTU reception counter.
  • All enrolments are subjected to the pre-placement test result and seats availability. Seats are based on first come first served basis.
  • Seats are based on first come first served basis. 
  • Full course fee payment shall be made upon enrolment of the course.
  • Successful applicants will receive confirmation notice at least 5-7 working days prior to class commence.

  • Course fee includes teaching materials and test fee.

Benefit
Receive an opening credit of S$500 that will not expire and periodic top-ups from the government to offset the course fee of approved skills-related courses.
