To be a World-Class Confucius Institute​

Confucius Institute, Nanyang Technological University (CI-NTU) is jointly established by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and the Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

It is the first Chinese language and culture school in Singapore co-sponsored by the Chinese central government. Jointly established by the Office of Chinese Language Council International and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in August 2005, CI-NTU aims to strengthen Singapore’s Mandarin capabilities, providing Singapore with a common platform in learning Chinese language and culture, and enhancing the communication link between Singapore and Chinese communities in other parts of the world. Being one of the earliest Confucius Institute to be set up, CI-NTU is partnering with one of the most renowned Universities in China, Shandong University. With the strong support from the Office of Chinese Language Council International and the College of International Education, Shandong University, CI-NTU engages top-notch Chinese lecturers and educators from renowned China universities. CI-NTU will give full play to its academic excellence and reputation in Chinese culture, sharing invaluable pedagogical resources and the fruit of its laborious researches with the Southeast Asian region and beyond. The Institute is located within NTU @One-north campus and neighbouring the likes of the HQ of Ministry of Education and Biopolis, the epicentre of One–North. The Institute has facilities that include lecture rooms, reading rooms, lounge area, resource centre and recreation zones.

Nanyang Technological University

Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is an established tertiary institution with 12 Schools, including three new schools - the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, School of Art, Design and Media, and School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences. NTU’s residential campus is located in the south-western part of Singapore. The university has a distinguished lineage with roots that go back to 1955, when it was first developed as a Chinese language university, Nanyang University. Today, we are a research-intensive university ranked among the top 50 in the world. We have also established ties with over 250 leading institutions spanning five continents. NTU recognizes the need to provide educational programmes that help facilitate a better understanding and appreciation of China. The university has established partnerships with top Chinese universities such as Beijing University and Shanghai Jiaotong University. We also offer well-received China-related programmes, such as Master of Science in Managerial Economics, Master of Public Administration and Nanyang EMBA, among many others. Proactive in its global outreach, NTU also set up two offices in Beijing and Shanghai, widening economic and education opportunities for students and alumni. Focused on grooming global leaders, NTU is truly well on the way to becoming a global university of excellence.
