Chinese Phonetics (Hanyu Pinyin) Programme

Series 1: Introduction to Chinese Phonetics (Hanyu Pinyin)​

This course is suitable for those who can converse in Mandarin but not familiar with the Chinese phonetic (Hanyu Pinyin) system.

Course Objectives

Learning the Hanyu Pinyin will enable trainees to pronounce and note the sound of the Chinese characters more accurately. Being a simple and efficient too​l for Chinese word processing, trainees will acquire another skill to input Chinese.


Course Outline

  • Initials, finals, and their combinations.
  • Tones
  • Differentiate the different pronunciation and tones.


Bonus

  • Chinese input on various platforms, eg. mobile phones, computers etc.



Series 2: Enhanced Level on Chinese Phonetics (Hanyu Pinyin)

This course is designed for those who have attended the previous level – “Introduction to Chinese Phonetics (Hanyu Pinyin)” – or have a basic knowledge of the Chinese phonetic (Hanyu Pinyin) system.

Course Objectives

Enhancing the knowledge and pronunciation of the Chinese phonetic (Hanyu Pinyin) and input skills of the Chinese characters.


Course Outline

  • Revision of initials, finals, and tones.
  • Reinforcement of the ability to differentiate the different pronunciation and tones.
  • Chinese input on various platforms, eg. mobile phones, computers etc.


Bonus

  • Chinese characters (Basic Strokes, Orders of Strokes, Radicals).



Course Duration

6 sessions, 18 hours (per level)



Medium of Instruction

Mandarin / English (partial)




Trainers

This course will be led by certified trained teachers (through the National Institute of Education, NIE). They have been teaching in local universities, government schools and language schools.




Post-course Internal Test

  • Test fee is included in the course fee.
  • Trainees must complete post-course test in the last session of the course.




Certificate

  • Trainees will be awarded with a Certificate of Attainment from CI-NTU after having met the requirements stated as follows:
    • Achieved a minimum attendance rate of 70% per course;
    • Passed post-course test by the stipulated deadline;
    • Participated in post-course surveys.
  • Trainees who fail to meet any of the above criteria and with a minimum attendance rate of 50% per course, will only be issued a Certificate of Participation.



Enrolment Procedure

  • Enrolment form can be downloaded from CI-NTU website, requested via email, or obtained from CI-NTU reception counter.
  • Please read all the terms and conditions stated in the enrolment form.
  • Submit the completed Enrolment Form via email to aclp@ntu.edu.sg or our CI-NTU reception counter during office hours.
  • Note to company-sponsored applicant: the Enrolment Form must be signed by a company official and endorsed with the company stamp.
  • All course enrolments are accepted on first come first served basis, subjected to seat availability.
  • Payment will be advised after the enrolment has been accepted.
  • Participants will be informed of the course status at least 5 working days before the course commencement date.

A non-refundable registration fee of $53.50 (incl. 7% GST) is applicable for each registration.

  • This programme is available for customising.
  • The above price list is only applicable for enrolment of more than 8 trainees per class. Customised pricing for less than 8.
  • Subsidies do not apply for customised courses.

  • 10% off course fee for NTU staff, student, NTU Alumni Club Member.^*
  • 10% off course fee for Seniors (Singapore Permanent Residents /Foreigners) aged 50 and above.^*

Fee Support

Applicants may apply for the following subsidies and/or credits/funds usage provided by the Singapore Government and National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) for the payment of course fee.

(I) Fee Subsidies


(a) National Silver Academy (NSA) **

Benefit

  • Enjoy 50% subsidy of the course fee.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicable to Singapore Citizens, aged 50 years and above.

(b) Union Training Assistance Programme (UTAP)

Benefit

  • NTUC members enjoy 50% unfunded course fee support, capped at $250 each year.*

Eligibility Criteria

  • Paid-up NTUC membership before course commencement, throughout whole course duration and at the point of claim.
  • Course must commence within the subsidy supported period.
  • Unfunded course fee must be $20 and above.
  • Applicants must be self-sponsored.
  • Achieved a minimum attendance rate of 75%.
  • Sat for post-course test by the stipulated deadline.
  • UTAP application must be submitted within 6 months after course completion.


*Unfunded course fee refers to the balance course fee payable after applicable government subsidy. This excludes GST, registration fees, miscellaneous fees etc.

(II) Credit/Fund Usage


SkillsFuture Credit (SFC)

Benefit

  • Receive an opening credit of $500 that willnot expire and periodic top-ups from the Government to offset the course fee of approved skills-related courses.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicable to Singapore Citizens, aged 25 years and above.​
  • Applicants must be self-sponsored.

Refund Policy

Course fees paid to CI-NTU may be refunded if:
